Tuesdays with Tarinae 7/30

Many of you know I have been a blogger for a long time. Many of you also know that my online identity is Tarinae, adopted from my main in World of Warcraft. What you may not know is that when I was doing my WoW blog, I ran a feature every Tuesday full of small tidbits that were share-worthy but not post dedicated worthy: Tuesdays with Tarinae.

I figure I am still most definitely identifiable as Tarinae and Tuesdays still most definitely exist...this just made sense.

Space Pirate Captain Harlock

If you enjoy foreign films/cartoons and can appreciate beautiful CGI in the way of Final Fantasy, this is absolutely brilliant. It looks fantastic and it is pirates....in space. Many thanks to Nevik for this nugget.

Doctor Who S7.1 E1

I just started watching Doctor Who Season 7 and I was hooked. I was extremely confused in the beginning and had to double check I remembered where we left off correctly but I was hooked. If this first episode is any indication, this season will highlight The Doctor with true heroism! If you have seen Season 7 we will have to chat about this when I am finished.

FandomFest = FailFest?

This past weekend in Louisville, Kentucky a large con, FandomFest, was held. The guest list at this show was highlighted with Jack Barrowman and I had even considered going. I am glad that I did not. There was a major outcry against this convention and its mismanagement and a lot of fans went home more than empty-handed. There were shattered dreams, broken hearts, heated heads, and empty wallets. Check out some of these event wrap-ups.

It is true that a lot of people managed to go and have a good time but it is sad that so many people had such a disastrous time when they should be having the time of their lives.

Comic Con News Blitz & Trailers

This year made people who attended Comic Con in San Diego the envy of most every geek. There were so many things debuted and released this year that it just makes the happy come to life. It also raised a new question on whether SDCC or Blizzcon should be my big con goal. Here is a small wrap up of the biggest announcements that made my day.
---------------------------------

Karen Gillan

Karen Gillan, Amy Pond in Doctor Who, was cast as Nebula in Marvel's Gaurdians of the Galaxy. The movie caused quite a stir being a bit on the unknown side but Gillan goes all out for the role.

Legend of Korra Season 2 Preview

This was so awesome and so well done that I had to take a break the moment I saw it to tell you guys about it. Check out the trailer and recommendation for this series in my earlier coverage!

Catching Fire

This definitely looks like it is set to be a fantastic movie. Having read the first two books, I thought The Hunger Games was pretty spot on and was extremely well done. This trailer glimpses that they have taken the book even further and made it into a spectacle that is more than worth seeing! Bravo! Come on November!!

Man of Steel 2

It was confirmed over the weekend that in the next Superman movie, the Man of Steel will meet the Dark Knight. This was a huge reveal that stirs up a lot of questions. Normally it is a bad guy good guy scenario but now we had goodie vs. goodie. What could have happened to pit them against one another? I wasn't going to post the video but it gave me goose bumps to watch the unveiling, so here it is!

Wrap Up Movie News

Other noteworthy news is Marvel Avengers: Avengers of Ultron was announced. And the World of Warcraft movie was confirmed. As it turns out Sam Raimi has left the project and casting is set to start with production in 2014. The movie is just titled Warcraft. Apparently, there was a mood piece shown at the convention but it is not expected to be released.

What were your favorite pieces of SDCC news?

Comic Con Debut: Legend of Korra Book 2

Book 2: Spirits

At the 2013 SDCC Nickelodeon released a preview of Season 2 for Avatar: The Legend of Korra. If you are an Avatar: The Last Airbender fan and have not watched this show, I strongly encourage you to fix that! The first season of LoK was amazing. Set in a post-Aang world, we are introduced to machines and steampunkiness; we are also set into what is being set up as a war between the benders and the non-benders with Korra and Aman, the villain, at the center.

This preview has no dialogue and it season one spoiler free. Check it out!

Featured Game: Dominion Guilds Expansion

Featured Game July 2013
In June, Rio Grande Games put out what they expect to be the last Dominion expansion for a small time. Dominion is a wonderful card game that has at this point 8 expansions. This is a medieval style deck building game that focuses on resource spending and victory points and includes money laundering, attacks, and subterfuge. (Unbiased claim of awesomeness and owning 4 sets of this game is inserted here!)

From Donald X Vaccarino & Rio Grande Games:

Jobs, everyone's worried about jobs. Whatever happened to tilling the fields in obscurity? The economy is just a trick, like stealing someone's nose, but lately people seem to have seen through it, like when you realize someone hasn't really stolen your nose. So now everyone's joining a guild, learning a craft, and working on a masterpiece – a painting so beautiful it blinds you, or a cheese grater so amazing that you never eat cheese again. The only people left tilling the fields are the ones doing it ironically. The guilds cover everything – ironic tilling, butchering, baking, candlestick making, shoemaking, cheesemaking, cheese destruction. Your advisor is convinced that somehow, control of the stonecutters is key to world domination. Very well. You will have stone handled so expertly that the world trembles before you.

Dominion: Guilds
is the eighth addition to the game of Dominion, adding thirteen new Kingdom cards to the game. This expansion has coin tokens that you can save to spend later, and cards you can get more out of by paying extra for them.

Shadows of the Horde follows Vol’jin to the lost continent of Pandaria, where the troll chieftain's loyalties are put to the ultimate test when a member of his own faction moves to assassinate him. . . .

Aided by the renowned brewmaster Chen Stormstout, Vol'jin takes refuge in a remote mountain monastery to recover from his wounds. His time there, however, is far from peaceful, as intense visions of the past assault the Darkspear chieftain, and the ancient Zandalari tribe mounts a series of attacks on Pandaria. In his struggle to make sense of what’s happening, Vol'jin must ultimately decide where his allegiances lay—a choice that could save or doom his people . . . and forever alter the fate of the Horde.
